The Reserve Bank of India has introduced new regulatory measures to ensure orderly functioning of the foreign exchange market and curb rupee volatility. These include restrictions on rebooking cancelled derivative contracts and a significant reduction in the threshold for derivative transactions without underlying exposure, from $100 million to $5 million. Additionally, banks must maintain a Foreign Exchange Risk Reserve (FERR) of 20% for certain derivative contracts. The RBI aims to strengthen market discipline and risk management through these actions.
