Filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola purchased an abandoned hunting lodge in Belize in 1981, transforming it into a private family retreat. Twelve years later, in 1993, it opened as the 20-room Blancaneaux Lodge, retaining its rustic charm and offering guests outdoor activities. The resort, surrounded by forests and rivers, now draws about 85% of its power from a nearby creek. Coppola's daughter Sofia recalled cherished childhood holidays spent exploring the jungle and swimming in the river at the property.
