S&P Adopts New Rules For Growth, Value Stock Classification

Economic Times Markets · stocks

S&P Dow Jones Indices has updated its rules for classifying stocks into growth and value categories. The index provider will now include intangible assets, forward earnings, and free cash flow in its definitions, while dropping 12-month price momentum. These changes, effective, aim to better reflect modern company spending on assets like research. The adjustments are expected to impact passive funds tracking these indices, with an estimated $375 billion in assets potentially needing to rebalance holdings. Other index providers are also considering similar adjustments.
