Students at Doon University in Dehradun protested late Monday night after finding live insects in their dinner at the Alaknanda hostel. This incident follows previous complaints about poor food quality that were allegedly ignored by authorities. Students demanded immediate action against the mess operator and a change in food service. The university has since brought in a new caterer for a week and assured that student health and food quality will not be compromised. The protest occurred shortly before student elections, leading to claims of politicisation.

देहरादून में दून यूनिवर्सिटी के छात्र सोमवार रात को अलकनंदा हॉस्टल में अपने रात के खाने में जिंदा कीड़े मिलने के बाद विरोध प्रदर्शन करने लगे। यह घटना खराब खाने की गुणवत्ता को लेकर पहले की गई शिकायतों के बाद हुई, जिन्हें कथित तौर पर अधिकारियों ने नजरअंदाज कर दिया था। छात्रों ने मेस ऑपरेटर के खिलाफ तत्काल कार्रवाई और खान-पान सेवा में बदलाव की मांग की। यूनिवर्सिटी ने तब से एक सप्ताह के लिए एक नया कैटरर नियुक्त किया है और आश्वासन दिया है कि छात्रों के स्वास्थ्य और भोजन की गुणवत्ता से कोई समझौता नहीं किया जाएगा। यह विरोध छात्र चुनावों से ठीक पहले हुआ, जिससे इसके राजनीतिकरण के दावे किए जा रहे हैं।
