झारसुगुड़ा में वीएसएस एयरपोर्ट को एक बड़े अपग्रेड के लिए तैयार किया जा रहा है, जिसके लिए केंद्र ने ₹2,100 करोड़ के निवेश को मंजूरी दी है। इस परियोजना का उद्देश्य पश्चिमी ओडिशा में हवाई संपर्क को महत्वपूर्ण रूप से बढ़ाना, यात्री हैंडलिंग क्षमता को बढ़ावा देना और अधिक घरेलू और अंतरराष्ट्रीय उड़ानों को सुगम बनाना है। योजनाओं में रनवे का विस्तार करना, एक नया टर्मिनल भवन बनाना और अधिक पार्किंग बे जोड़ना शामिल है। विस्तार के लिए भूमि अधिग्रहण वर्तमान में राज्य सरकार द्वारा किया जा रहा है। इस अपग्रेड से क्षेत्र में व्यापार, उद्योग और पर्यटन को बढ़ावा मिलने की उम्मीद है।
