Police claim Shiv Shankar, inspired by a film, travelled nearly 2,000km from Surat to his village, killed his sleeping father with an axe, and returned. He allegedly switched off his phone and avoided his father's funeral rites. Motives including family disputes and land issues are under investigation. The recovery of the murder weapon from inside the house initially led police to suspect someone familiar with the family.
