Olympic champion Sifan Hassan has announced her withdrawal from the upcoming New York City Marathon. She cited illness that hampered her training as the reason for not being adequately prepared. Hassan, who won gold in the 5,000m and 10,000m at the Tokyo Games and the Paris 2024 marathon, has not competed since finishing sixth at the same event a year ago. She also suffered an Achilles injury earlier this year, forcing her out of the London Marathon. The athlete expressed disappointment that her plans did not materialize as expected.
