भाद्रपद पूर्णिमा से पितृ पक्ष शुरू हो गया है, जो 16 दिनों तक चलता है। इस दौरान पूर्वजों को याद किया जाता है और उनका सम्मान किया जाता है। आज पूर्णिमा है, लेकिन पितरों के लिए श्राद्ध कर्म कल से शुरू होंगे। इस पवित्र समय में तर्पण, श्राद्ध और पिंडदान जैसे कर्मकांड किए जाते हैं ताकि पूर्वजों की आत्मा को शांति मिले। ऐसी मान्यता है कि पितर इस दौरान धरती पर आकर अपने वंशजों से पिंड की कामना करते हैं।
