ECI Clarifies Draft Roll Absence Not Deletion, Bombay HC Told

The Election Commission of India (ECI) informed the Bombay High Court that a name missing from a draft roll during a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) does not constitute deletion. An SIR involves a fresh compilation of the electoral roll, not a trimming of the existing one. Senior advocate Ashutosh Kumbhakoni explained that the existing roll serves only as a reference. A voter whose name is absent from the draft must file Form 6 during the claims and objections period for inclusion in the final roll.

चुनाव आयोग (ECI) ने बॉम्बे हाई कोर्ट को बताया कि स्पेशल इंटेंसिव रिवीजन (SIR) के दौरान मसौदा सूची से नाम का गायब होना डिलीट होना नहीं है। SIR में मौजूदा मतदाता सूची को छांटना नहीं, बल्कि उसे नए सिरे से तैयार करना शामिल है। वरिष्ठ अधिवक्ता आशुतोष कुंभकोणी ने समझाया कि मौजूदा सूची केवल एक संदर्भ के तौर पर काम करती है। जिस मतदाता का नाम मसौदे से गायब है, उसे अंतिम सूची में शामिल करने के लिए दावों और आपत्तियों की अवधि के दौरान फॉर्म 6 भरना होगा।
