Yadav insists that the Congress must name its winning candidates for each seat they claim, rather than just demanding a number of seats. He believes that the strength of the candidate is paramount to defeating the BJP. This stance follows the 2017 election where a similar alliance saw Congress win only seven seats despite being allocated 105.

समाजवादी पार्टी के प्रमुख अखिलेश यादव ने उत्तर प्रदेश विधानसभा चुनावों के लिए कांग्रेस के साथ सीट-बंटवारे के लिए एक शर्त रखी है। यादव का जोर है कि कांग्रेस को केवल सीटों की संख्या मांगने के बजाय, वे जिस सीट का दावा करते हैं, उसके लिए अपने जीतने वाले उम्मीदवारों के नाम बताने होंगे। उनका मानना है कि भाजपा को हराने के लिए उम्मीदवार की ताकत सर्वोपरि है। यह रुख 2017 के चुनाव के बाद आया है, जहां इसी तरह के गठबंधन में कांग्रेस को 105 सीटें आवंटित होने के बावजूद केवल सात सीटें मिली थीं।
