Fairfax Offers RBI Plan For IDBI-CSB Ownership Overlap Resolution

Fairfax Financial Holdings has submitted a plan to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to resolve its overlapping ownership of IDBI Bank and CSB Bank. This undertaking was provided even before receiving government approval for the IDBI Bank acquisition. A merger of the two banks is emerging as the most likely solution, allowing Fairfax to consolidate its banking interests under a single license. The RBI has concerns about a single promoter group holding significant stakes in two universal banks, and Fairfax has proposed a two-year timeline for resolution.
