Easy Exits Hurting Indian Stocks, Says Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman
Economic Times Markets · stocks
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated that the ease of liquidity in Indian markets is enabling investors to exit equities quickly, contributing to underperformance. Both the Nifty and Sensex have failed to deliver positive returns over the last two years, with benchmark indexes falling nearly 12% this year despite resilient economic growth. Foreign investors have withdrawn significantly, with cumulative flows now broadly flat. Sitharaman identified persistent capital outflows as a key risk, noting a shift in global investor interest towards AI-focused markets like Taiwan and South Korea.
