Shark Tours Inspire 40% More Conservation Action, Study Finds
Times of India · science
New research from the University of Sydney indicates that shark ecotourism can significantly boost conservation efforts. A study in Hawaii found that participants in shark tours were 40% more likely to engage in shark conservation activities two years later compared to those who did not participate. These activities included donating, signing petitions, and advocating online. With shark populations declining rapidly and a third of species threatened, this tourism offers a vital tool beyond economic benefits to protect these marine animals.
