Kerala Medical Practitioners Exceed One Lakh, Raising Quality and Job Concerns

The Hindu · india

The number of registered medical practitioners (RMPs) in Kerala has surpassed one lakh, with over 32% registering between 2021 and 2025. Data indicates 1,13,023 RMPs are now in the state. Public health activists warn this trend could lead to unemployment among medical graduates and the commercialization of healthcare services. With approximately 5,000 local graduates and 2,000 from elsewhere entering the workforce annually, concerns are mounting about job availability. Experts suggest focusing on improving existing infrastructure and faculty in medical colleges rather than approving new ones.
