Bengal moves SC to revoke bail for Congress's Nandigram candidate Milan Pradhan

The West Bengal government has approached the Supreme Court to cancel the interim bail granted to Congress's Nandigram bypoll candidate Milan Pradhan. The state argues that Pradhan, accused in six criminal cases including murder and facing six non-bailable warrants, should not have received bail. The Calcutta high court had granted him three weeks' interim bail on September 29 to campaign for the October 6 byelection. The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the state's appeal on October 5, a day before campaigning ends.

पश्चिम बंगाल सरकार ने कांग्रेस के नंदीग्राम उपचुनाव उम्मीदवार मिलन प्रधान को मिली अंतरिम जमानत रद्द कराने के लिए सुप्रीम कोर्ट का रुख किया है। राज्य का तर्क है कि हत्या सहित छह आपराधिक मामलों में आरोपी और छह गैर-जमानती वारंट का सामना कर रहे प्रधान को जमानत नहीं मिलनी चाहिए थी। कलकत्ता उच्च न्यायालय ने उन्हें 6 अक्टूबर के उपचुनाव के लिए प्रचार करने के लिए 29 सितंबर को तीन सप्ताह की अंतरिम जमानत दी थी। सुप्रीम कोर्ट राज्य की अपील पर 5 अक्टूबर को सुनवाई करने के लिए सहमत हो गया है, जो प्रचार समाप्त होने से एक दिन पहले है।
