Bengal BJP Chief Seeks Fresh Electoral Roll Revision, Cites Incomplete Exercise

Business Standard · politics

The West Bengal BJP president, Samik Bhattacharya, has called for a fresh Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state, asserting that the previous exercise was incomplete. He alleged that officials and BJP workers faced intimidation, potentially preventing the deletion of more names from the voter list. Bhattacharya pointed to the large-scale deletion of 91 lakh names during the prior SIR, suggesting it was justified by the identification of over 20 lakh fake Swasthyasathi cards. He also praised the Chief Election Commissioner for ensuring a peaceful election.
