India Today · world

Satellite images show an oil spill from a damaged tanker off the UAE coast has widened, reaching the shores of Umm Al Quwain and prompting further beach closures. Experts suggest the spill originates from the Gem No 2 tanker, which was reportedly struck by a projectile last month. Authorities are assessing the environmental impact and have temporarily closed beaches in Umm Al Quwain, Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah. The incident raises environmental concerns for the UAE's rich marine life, including over 500 fish species, dolphins, and turtles.
