Indrayani River Shows Rich Biodiversity Despite Severe Pollution

A recent biodiversity assessment of the Indrayani river has revealed a surprising resilience, with 169 plant and 107 bird species recorded despite severe pollution. The study, conducted between November 2025 and March 2026, identified 30 ecologically rich stretches and noted the presence of protected bird species. However, pollution remains a significant concern, as all water samples tested positive for faecal coliform bacteria, with the Moshi–Alandi stretch being particularly affected. The report recommends immediate measures to stop sewage discharge and protect riverine habitats to preserve this biodiversity.

इंद्रायणी नदी के हालिया जैव विविधता आकलन में गंभीर प्रदूषण के बावजूद 169 पौधे और 107 पक्षी प्रजातियों की आश्चर्यजनक मजबूती सामने आई है। नवंबर 2025 से मार्च 2026 के बीच किए गए इस अध्ययन में 30 पारिस्थितिक रूप से समृद्ध हिस्सों की पहचान की गई और संरक्षित पक्षी प्रजातियों की उपस्थिति दर्ज की गई। हालांकि, प्रदूषण एक बड़ी चिंता बनी हुई है, क्योंकि सभी पानी के नमूनों में फेकल कोलीफॉर्म बैक्टीरिया पाए गए, जिसमें मोशी-आलंदी का हिस्सा विशेष रूप से प्रभावित हुआ। रिपोर्ट में इस जैव विविधता को बनाए रखने के लिए सीवेज डिस्चार्ज को रोकने और नदी के आवासों की रक्षा के लिए तत्काल उपायों की सिफारिश की गई है।
