The CBI has requested custody of Saurabh Chandrakar, the alleged mastermind of the ₹6,000-crore Mahadev online betting syndicate. The agency aims to identify Chhattisgarh police and administrative officials who allegedly received bribes to permit illegal operations. Chandrakar, extradited from Oman, was granted eight days of CBI custody to aid in identifying other masterminds, tracing fund flows, and locating assets. The CBI alleges that protection money was regularly paid to officials and politicians through hawala operators and police personnel. Chandrakar and associates allegedly generated ₹450 crore monthly since 2020.
