A recent MIT study surveyed 268 young mathematicians across five countries, including India, revealing widespread anxiety about artificial intelligence. Approximately 70% of graduate students and postdocs feel their chances of continuing in academic mathematics have significantly decreased due to AI. A striking 76.3% believe AI will make securing permanent university research and teaching positions extremely difficult. Furthermore, many researchers report diminished enthusiasm for tackling complex math problems, fearing AI could solve them, diminishing their own efforts.
