Democrat Annie Andrews has secured a historic victory in South Carolina, becoming the first Democratic senator for the state in nearly three decades. Andrews, a former paediatrician, defeated Republican candidate Darline Graham in Tuesday's midterm elections. Graham had been appointed to the seat in July following the death of her brother, Senator Lindsey Graham. This win marks a significant shift for the Democratic party in the state, achieving an upset against a candidate who acknowledged her inexperience during the primary campaign.
