Supreme Court Questions Firecracker Ban Enforcement, Cites Mockery of Orders
Times of India · environment
The Supreme Court expressed skepticism on Thursday regarding the effectiveness of firecracker bans, stating there is no point in issuing orders without proper ground-level implementation. Justices M. M. Sundresh and Prasanna B. Varale emphasized that authorities must take the issue seriously and ensure regulations are enforced. While not inclined towards a complete ban, the court warned against pushing it to take a harsher stance. The government highlighted measures being taken to combat air pollution, including curbs on vehicles and construction, and requested time for consultations on barium use in firecrackers.
