India's FTAs Could Boost GDP by $170 Billion by 2035

Business Standard · business

India's expanding free trade agreements (FTAs) are projected to add $140-170 billion to its GDP by 2035, according to Bloomberg Economics. FTAs already in force could raise GDP by 1.2%, potentially reaching 2.1% with new agreements like the EU and New Zealand, adding about $170 billion. The report suggests India's economy is well-positioned to absorb US tariff disruptions, as new trade partnerships facilitate market discovery and FDI. While US tariffs may reduce exports by one-fifth, the impact on India's economy is expected to be limited due to diversified export destinations.
