Interest payments on Maharajah Bonds issued by the New Development Bank (NDB) have been exempted from tax deduction at source (TDS). This move by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) aims to enhance the attractiveness of these rupee-denominated instruments for investors. The exemption applies to eligible bondholders, including residents and foreign institutional investors, for financial year 2026-27 and beyond. The NDB plans to raise ₹25,000 crore over five years through these bonds to fund sustainable infrastructure projects in India.
