The Supreme Court has severely criticized Uttar Pradesh police for a "slipshod investigation" that led to a man being wrongly imprisoned for six years. The court noted there was no evidence against the accused, who was implicated based solely on CCTV footage. Observing that the state cannot shirk its responsibility to protect citizens, the apex court directed UP police to pay Rs 6 lakh as compensation to the man. The bench emphasized that investigation and prosecuting agencies must ensure justice for both victims and the accused.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने एक आदमी को छह साल तक गलत तरीके से जेल में रखने के लिए उत्तर प्रदेश पुलिस की "लापरवाह जांच" की कड़ी आलोचना की है। कोर्ट ने कहा कि आरोपी के खिलाफ कोई सबूत नहीं था, उसे सिर्फ सीसीटीवी फुटेज के आधार पर फंसाया गया था। यह देखते हुए कि राज्य नागरिकों की रक्षा की अपनी जिम्मेदारी से पीछे नहीं हट सकता, सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने यूपी पुलिस को आदमी को 6 लाख रुपये का मुआवजा देने का निर्देश दिया। बेंच ने इस बात पर जोर दिया कि जांच और अभियोजन एजेंसियों को पीड़ितों और आरोपी दोनों के लिए न्याय सुनिश्चित करना चाहिए।
