Govt. Funds Half Cost of Deepwater Wells, Recovers From Oil Winners

The Hindu · india

The Indian government will fund up to half the cost of risky deepwater exploration wells under the ₹84,084 crore Samudra Manthan scheme. This funding is contingent on successful oil or gas discoveries, with the government expecting repayment from future revenues. If exploration yields nothing, the state will absorb the entire loss. The scheme aims to support 60 wells in deepwater and ultra-deepwater areas, with specific cost caps per well. Only state-run firms or consortia they lead can apply for this funding.
