Germany Regains Safe Haven Status Amid European Bond Selloff

Economic Times Markets · stocks

European bond markets are experiencing a sharp selloff, leading traders to become more selective and favouring German debt as a safe haven. France is at the centre of this turmoil, with its 10-year bond yield rising significantly due to concerns over its large budget deficit and political uncertainty. Italy also faces contagion risks, as its deficit is expected to exceed EU limits and its debt-to-GDP ratio is high. While the current divergence is less extreme than during the European debt crisis, investor caution persists.
