The Punjab and Haryana High Court has summoned the Punjab Chief Secretary to appear on October 28 regarding a 25-year delay in deciding retirees' pensionary benefits. The court is hearing petitions filed in 2001 by around 50 employees seeking recomputation and enhancement of their commuted pensions. The government has failed to file its response since 2001, leading to multiple fines and a show-cause notice for contempt proceedings against the Chief Secretary.
