Around 70 factory workers in Surat, Gujarat, were detained by police on Thursday for protesting outside the collector's office. The workers were demanding weekly holidays and higher wages. Police stated that the workers did not have permission to hold the demonstration. This action comes amidst ongoing protests by migrant workers against alleged 12-hour shifts and denial of statutory weekly holidays. The workers also alleged that their senior leaders were arrested to suppress their agitation.

गुजरात के सूरत में गुरुवार को पुलिस ने कलेक्टर कार्यालय के बाहर विरोध प्रदर्शन कर रहे करीब 70 फैक्ट्री मजदूरों को हिरासत में ले लिया। मजदूर साप्ताहिक छुट्टी और बेहतर वेतन की मांग कर रहे थे। पुलिस ने कहा कि मजदूरों के पास प्रदर्शन की अनुमति नहीं थी। यह कार्रवाई प्रवासी मजदूरों द्वारा कथित तौर पर 12 घंटे की शिफ्ट और साप्ताहिक छुट्टी न मिलने के खिलाफ चल रहे विरोध प्रदर्शनों के बीच हुई है। मजदूरों ने यह भी आरोप लगाया कि उनके वरिष्ठ नेताओं को उनकी हड़ताल को दबाने के लिए गिरफ्तार किया गया था।
