A proposal by the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board to implement uniform Friday sermons across all mosques in the region has ignited significant backlash. Politicians and religious leaders have accused the government, through the board headed by Darakshan Andrabi, of attempting to control Muslim religious affairs. Andrabi defended the move, stating a committee would identify issues and social evils like drug abuse, with scholars approving sermons.
