Indian High Courts Strike Down Reservation Hikes Exceeding 50% Cap

Two significant court rulings in India have challenged recent increases in reservation quotas. The Madhya Pradesh High Court struck down a law that raised OBC reservation from 14% to 27%, reverting it to 14% and citing insufficient legal grounds and procedural lapses. Three days later, the Karnataka High Court nullified increased reservation for SC and ST communities. Both judgments emphasized the constitutional 50% cap on reservations, questioning the legal basis for exceeding it. The Karnataka government is considering legal options following the ruling.
