Hindustan Times · india
The Supreme Court has ruled that banks and financial institutions must compensate victims of digital arrest scams if fraud results from a failure in due diligence. A bench, including the Chief Justice, stressed the need for preventive safeguards to halt suspicious transactions before money is transferred. The court will examine the RBI's proposed KYC Amendment Directions, 2026, aiming to operationalize them by December 31. Despite public awareness, such scams continue, with one victim losing ₹2.5 crore, and total losses reaching nearly ₹800 crore this year.
