India's Solar Cell Capacity Lags Module Additions

India's solar manufacturing expansion in the first half of 2026 saw module capacity additions more than five times that of solar cells. Cumulative module manufacturing capacity reached 261.7 GW by June, while cell capacity stood at 36.6 GW, widening the gap. This disparity has increased reliance on imported cells, with imports of solar cells and modules rising 18% year-on-year. Gujarat leads solar manufacturing, housing nearly 45% of module capacity and over 36% of cell capacity.
