Supreme Court judge Justice B.V. Nagarathna highlighted significant implementation gaps in the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, during a national consultation. She emphasized that the focus must extend beyond case disposal to ensuring education, counselling, and medical care for children. A 2025 study revealed over 55,000 children are awaiting decisions, with many Juvenile Justice Boards and Child Welfare Committees functioning without full teams. Justice Nagarathna stressed that a disposed case does not automatically equate to a rehabilitated child, underscoring the need for better care and reintegration.
