Rajasthan's education minister has directed government school teachers to ensure schools are cleaned, repaired, and painted before Diwali, including attractive lighting for the festival. However, no budget has been allocated for these tasks. Schools are instructed to mobilize students and local residents for labor and to collect donations from the public for the renovation and decoration work. Teacher unions have protested, stating that their primary role is education, not fundraising, especially given existing teacher shortages and the dilapidated condition of many school buildings.
