A new study investigated how artificial light at night (ALAN) affects wildlife in Kerala's Western Ghats protected areas. Researchers analyzed satellite data and infrastructure information across 21 reserves, assessing light pollution from surrounding human settlements and activity centers. Periyar Tiger Reserve West showed the highest light levels. The study found a strong correlation between light intensity within reserves and the density of places of worship, indicating their significant contribution to light pollution.
