Taxman's Rs 3 Lakh Limit Overruled; ITAT Grants Rs 9.29 Lakh Leave Exemption Relief
Times of India - Business · business
A retired State Bank of India employee from Jaipur was denied full tax exemption on his Rs 9.29 lakh leave encashment by the Income Tax Assessing Officer, who restricted it to the Rs 3 lakh limit applicable in 2020. The Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals) upheld this decision. However, the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) in Jaipur has now ruled in the employee's favour, granting him the full exemption. This ruling provides significant relief to the retired bank employee, allowing him to retain the entire amount without tax liability.
