US Treasury Chief: Europe Refused Tariffs on India, China Over Russian Oil

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that European nations declined a US request to impose secondary tariffs on India and China for purchasing Russian oil. He questioned why the United States should unilaterally bear the economic burden of pressuring Russia. Bessent revealed that European allies refused joint action against countries importing Russian energy in the spring. He also noted that European countries continue to buy substantial amounts of Russian energy, providing significant revenue.

अमेरिकी ट्रेजरी सेक्रेटरी स्कॉट बेस्सेंट ने कहा कि यूरोपीय देशों ने भारत और चीन पर रूसी तेल खरीदने के लिए सेकेंडरी टैरिफ लगाने के अमेरिकी अनुरोध को ठुकरा दिया। उन्होंने सवाल उठाया कि रूस पर दबाव बनाने का आर्थिक बोझ अमेरिका को अकेले क्यों उठाना चाहिए। बेस्सेंट ने बताया कि यूरोपीय सहयोगियों ने वसंत ऋतु में रूसी ऊर्जा आयात करने वाले देशों के खिलाफ संयुक्त कार्रवाई से इनकार कर दिया था। उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि यूरोपीय देश रूसी ऊर्जा की बड़ी मात्रा खरीदना जारी रखे हुए हैं, जिससे उन्हें महत्वपूर्ण राजस्व मिल रहा है।
