Northern Railway Loses Appeal, Must Pay Rs 1.45 Lakh For Stolen Bag

Times of India · india

The Delhi state consumer commission has upheld an order directing Northern Railway to pay Rs 1.45 lakh to a passenger whose bag was stolen from a reserved train coach. The commission stated the railway could not avoid responsibility by claiming luggage wasn't covered by tickets, especially when unauthorized persons entered a reserved compartment. Railway staff also failed to prevent intrusion and assist in lodging an FIR. Northern Railway's appeal was dismissed, affirming the district commission's ruling that the railway was liable for negligence and deficiency in service.
