Y Chromosome Loss May Signal Early Cancer Risk

A study published in 'JCI Insight' suggests that the loss of the Y chromosome in men's cells could serve as an early indicator of cancer. Researchers analyzed over 4.3 million cell nuclei from 11 organs, finding increased Y chromosome loss in tissues surrounding tumors and even in normal-looking tissue near cancerous growths. This phenomenon, known as mosaic loss of the Y chromosome (mLOY), was particularly noticeable in cancers of the colon, rectum.
