Jharkhand's Monsoon Normal Overall But Marked By Extreme Fluctuations And Uneven Distribution

Times of India · environment

Jharkhand's southwest monsoon is expected to conclude in the normal category, despite a season characterized by sharp fluctuations and significant district-level disparities. After initial deficits in June and July, the state experienced rainfall 26% above normal in August and 15% above normal in September, recovering to an overall deficit of just 2%. The season saw numerous heavy, very heavy, and extremely heavy rainfall days, particularly in August and September, largely due to low-pressure systems from the Bay of Bengal.
