Texas Executes Inmate After Botched Lethal Injection Last Week

Texas carried out the execution of Jamaal Howard by lethal injection on Wednesday evening, marking the first execution in the US since a botched attempt on Christa Pike last week. Howard's lawyers had sought to pause the execution, arguing that the same drug, pentobarbital, posed similar risks due to alleged degradation. Courts, including the US Supreme Court, denied their appeals. Howard was convicted of murdering a convenience store clerk during a robbery in 2000. He apologized to the victim's family before his death.

टेक्सास ने बुधवार शाम को जमाअल हॉवर्ड को ज़हरीली सुई लगाकर फाँसी दे दी। पिछले हफ़्ते क्रिस्टा पाइक के मामले में गड़बड़ी के बाद अमेरिका में यह पहली फाँसी थी। हॉवर्ड के वकीलों ने फाँसी रोकने की कोशिश की थी, उनका कहना था कि वही दवा, पेंटोबार्बिटल, ख़राब होने की वजह से वैसे ही ख़तरे पैदा कर सकती है। सुप्रीम कोर्ट समेत अदालतों ने उनकी अपीलें ख़ारिज कर दीं। हॉवर्ड को 2000 में लूट के दौरान एक दुकान के क्लर्क की हत्या का दोषी पाया गया था। मरने से पहले उन्होंने पीड़ित के परिवार से माफ़ी माँगी थी।
