San Jose and Santa Clara residents reported smelling smoke on September 23, fearing a fire. The smoke originated from a prescribed vegetation burn on Angel Island, which resumed after a pause. CAL FIRE and Marin County Fire are conducting the operation, aiming to burn approximately 260 acres. This preventative measure is intended for habitat improvement and fuel reduction. Residents were advised not to call 911 for smoke reports to avoid overwhelming emergency services.
