Times of India · interesting

For nearly 300 years, plain paint concealed Renaissance frescoes in Rome's Villa Silvestri Rivaldi. These artworks, featuring mythological figures and nudes, were deliberately covered by nuns from the 17th century due to religious objections. Now, conservators are meticulously removing the later layers using advanced techniques like laser cleaning. This restoration effort is bringing vibrant scenes back into view, revealing the villa's original artistic grandeur after centuries of obscurity. The villa, built in the 16th century, was acquired by Italy's Lazio region for €25 million.
