NHRC Tells States To Protect Livelihoods Of Local Vendors During Festivals

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed all states and Union Territories to ensure the protection of local vendors, street vendors, hawkers, potters, and small traders during the upcoming festive season. This directive comes in response to complaints of unnecessary evictions, goods seizure, and harassment. The NHRC stated that if vendors must be moved for safety reasons, suitable alternative spaces should be provided. The commission also urged authorities to promote local vendors and products in the spirit of 'Vocal for Local'.
