Odisha: Two Activists Arrested in Case Linked to April Police-Resident Clash

Two activists, Randall Sequeira and Laxman Naik, were arrested on Friday night in Bhawanipatna town, Kalahandi district, Odisha. Their arrest is connected to a case stemming from an April clash between police and residents in Rayagada district. Activists reported that the police seized their mobile phones and took them to the Town Police Station without a warrant or explanation. The two were reportedly held overnight without legal or family access before being presented to a magistrate and sent to Rayagada Sub Jail.

दो कार्यकर्ताओं, रैंडल सीक्वेरा और लक्ष्मण नाइक को ओडिशा के कालाहांडी जिले के भवानीपटना शहर में शुक्रवार रात गिरफ्तार किया गया। उनकी गिरफ्तारी रायगढ़ा जिले में अप्रैल में पुलिस और निवासियों के बीच हुई झड़प से जुड़े एक मामले से जुड़ी है। कार्यकर्ताओं ने बताया कि पुलिस ने उनके मोबाइल फोन जब्त कर लिए और बिना वारंट या स्पष्टीकरण के उन्हें टाउन पुलिस स्टेशन ले गई। कथित तौर पर उन्हें कानूनी या पारिवारिक पहुंच के बिना रात भर हिरासत में रखा गया था, इससे पहले कि उन्हें मजिस्ट्रेट के सामने पेश किया गया और रायगढ़ा उप जेल भेज दिया गया।
