Times of India · india

The Jammu & Kashmir High Court has ruled that compelling an employee to perform the duties of a higher post while paying them a lower salary constitutes workplace exploitation, which is legally impermissible. A division bench upheld a single bench order directing substantive promotion and consequential benefits for a municipal employee, Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh. Sheikh had been performing the duties of a sanitary supervisor since 2000 but was denied promotion, while a colleague was promoted earlier.
