Kottayam Medical College Block Ceiling Collapses Again, Raising Quality Concerns

A portion of the ceiling and a hollow brick wall collapsed again at the new general surgery block of Kottayam Medical College on Wednesday night. This is the second such incident in a week, deepening concerns over the construction quality of the ₹257 crore building. A staff member narrowly escaped injury during the latest collapse. Recurring issues like water leakage and structural defects have plagued the block since its inauguration in February.

कोट्टायम मेडिकल कॉलेज के नए जनरल सर्जरी ब्लॉक में बुधवार रात को फिर से छत का एक हिस्सा और खोखली ईंटों की दीवार गिर गई। यह एक हफ्ते में दूसरी ऐसी घटना है, जिससे 257 करोड़ रुपये की इमारत के निर्माण की गुणवत्ता को लेकर चिंताएं बढ़ गई हैं। हालिया मलबे के गिरने के दौरान एक कर्मचारी बाल-बाल बच गया। फरवरी में उद्घाटन के बाद से ही इस ब्लॉक में पानी का रिसाव और संरचनात्मक खामियों जैसी समस्याएं लगातार बनी हुई हैं।
