India Mandates Full Power Plant Output Amid Shortages

India has invoked emergency rules to boost electricity supplies as coal stocks at power plants plummet. Generators are increasing output to compensate for weak hydropower and reduced solar generation. The government has directed companies with captive coal power capacity exceeding 50 megawatts to operate at full throttle and sell surplus electricity. This measure aims to address nighttime power shortages exacerbated by an El Niño-driven dry monsoon, which has impacted hydropower and increased demand for cooling and irrigation.

बिजली की कमी के बीच भारत ने पावर प्लांटों को पूरी क्षमता से चलाने का आदेश दिया

कोयले के भंडार में भारी गिरावट के चलते भारत ने बिजली आपूर्ति बढ़ाने के लिए आपातकालीन नियमों को लागू किया है। जनरेटर हाइड्रोपावर की कमज़ोरी और सौर ऊर्जा उत्पादन में कमी की भरपाई के लिए उत्पादन बढ़ा रहे हैं। सरकार ने 50 मेगावाट से ज़्यादा क्षमता वाले कैप्टिव कोयला पावर प्लांट वाली कंपनियों को पूरी क्षमता से चलाने और अतिरिक्त बिजली बेचने का निर्देश दिया है। इस कदम का मकसद रात के समय बिजली की कमी को दूर करना है, जो अल नीनो-संचालित शुष्क मानसून के कारण बढ़ गई है, जिससे हाइड्रोपावर प्रभावित हुआ है और कूलिंग व सिंचाई की मांग बढ़ी है।
