Biological Women Oppose Transgender Rights in Supreme Court

An all-women NGO, Women’s Declaration International India, has appealed to the Supreme Court not to grant transgender women the same constitutional rights as biological women. Senior advocate Amit Sibal argued that self-professed gender identity cannot change biological sex, which underpins many protections for women. The NGO contends that granting trans-women equal rights would violate affirmative measures for women in employment, privacy, and security.

एक सभी महिला एनजीओ, Women’s Declaration International India, ने सुप्रीम कोर्ट से अपील की है कि ट्रांसजेंडर महिलाओं को जैविक महिलाओं के समान संवैधानिक अधिकार न दिए जाएं। वरिष्ठ अधिवक्ता अमित सिब्बल ने तर्क दिया कि स्वयं घोषित लिंग पहचान जैविक लिंग को नहीं बदल सकती है, जो महिलाओं के लिए कई सुरक्षा उपायों का आधार है। एनजीओ का तर्क है कि ट्रांस-महिलाओं को समान अधिकार देने से रोजगार, गोपनीयता और सुरक्षा में महिलाओं के लिए सकारात्मक उपायों का उल्लंघन होगा।
